Oceanside Newcomers & Friends founder and past president 1989-1990, Mimi Howland holding the City of Oceanside Proclamation that April 3, 2018 has been designated Oceanside Newcomers & Friends 30th Anniversary Day. The proclamation was signed by Mayor Peter Weiss and was presented to our group by Deputy Mayor Chuck Lowery.

Our history

In April 1988, local resident Mimi Howland had an idea to start a group of newly arrived residents in Oceanside to unite for social and cultural activities.  After meeting with Pat Elledge, the two women gathered 13 of their friends and neighbors and held the first meeting under the guidance of Welcome Wagon.

In March 1996 this group changed their name to Oceanside Newcomers & Friends. We now host members from neighboring cities throughout North County, San Diego including Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, San Marcos, Vista, Fallbrook and Escondido. Many former members who have left our area have remained members while living in other US states.

We also provide assistance to local charitable funds as well as provide our members with assistance when they are in need of help.
